Shelley Weir, the President of The Hope Foundation, has died at the age of 63. Weir passed away around 4 a.m. following a month-long hospitalisation, having been diagnosed with lupus in June 1990. Scientifically known as systemic lupus erythematosus, lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease causing connective tissue inflammation and can severely impact every organ. In May 1991, Weir formally launched The Hope Foundation to advocate for individuals suffering from lupus, sickle cell anaemia, and arthritis. For decades, she dedicated her efforts to educating the public and improving the lives of those affected by these three non-communicable diseases.
